The Immortal Turritopsis Dohrnii

T. Dohrnii : The Immortal !

What if I say, you can be immortal soon? Yeah, It’s true, the recently discovered Jelly Fish species has all the answers of immortality. The species of immortal Jellyfish (Turritopsis Dohrnii, Biological Name) usually found in the Mediterranean Sea. The Immortal Jellyfish heated up the discussion among the scientists worldwide. As it’s named, it has an ability to bring its cells back to the immature state from the mature state, and the process is called “Transdifferentiation”.

T. Dohrnii Life Cycle
Turritopsis Dohrnii begins their life as tiny larvae known as Planula, which is usually attached to the seafloor in the form of extensively branched colony of Polyps. Jellyfish, then bud off these polyps and continue their life in free-swimming form, till they become sexually mature. These Jellyfishes are highly sensitive to external environmental assaults. If they exposed to these assaults or get sick or old, then they simply revert back to the Polyp stage, forming a new Polyp colony. This is done by the cell development of Transdifferentiation, which changes the Differentiated stage of the cells and converts them into immature ones.
Scientists are generously observing these species of Jellyfish. In an experiment, 100% of the jellyfish reverted back into the Polyps form, however, this process is so fast that it has not been observed in natural habitat yet. Still, researches are going on, and the day is not far when we will able to test the transdifferentiation process on humans.
